McCue is seeking an AI Systems Engineer to join our innovation team. This individual will architect and develop the computer vision and AI systems that power autonomous safety inspection robotics, integrating perception, intelligence, and data into deployable, real-world systems.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, highly technical, and eager to work hands-on across AI model development, dataset creation, system integration, and prototype validation.
This role blends applied AI development, robotics perception, and systems-level thinking. It’s a rare opportunity to help build something entirely new inside a proven, growing company.
This is a builder’s role — hands-on, high-ownership, and central to shaping how we define the future of intelligent safety.
Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain development of the AI and perception architecture for different projects
- Collaborate cross-functionally with robotics, mechanical, and software engineers to define system requirements
- Build internal knowledge base around AI and machine learning
- Ensure all AI models and datasets meet quality, compliance, and data security standards
- Play a leadership role in shaping future hiring, partnerships, and technology roadmap for different projects
Key Activities
- Design and train computer vision models (e.g., YOLOv8, segmentation, object detection) for safety inspection tasks
- Manage dataset pipeline: collect, clean, label, and augment data for AI model training using tools like Roboflow or CVAT
- Deploy optimized models to edge computing devices (NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX/Xavier)
- Collaborate with robotics partners to integrate AI perception with sensors, cameras, and ROS2-based navigation systems
- Contribute to design of data and cloud architecture for inference logging, retraining loops, and reporting dashboards
- Prototype new sensing approaches including thermal, infrared, and vibration analysis for multi-modal perception
- Validate performance through testing in live industrial environments, iterating to achieve production-level accuracy and reliability in real-world testing
- Stay current with advancements in AI and robotics—leveraging open-source models and frameworks when appropriate
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or related field
- 3–6 years of experience in AI, computer vision, or applied machine learning (industrial or robotics applications preferred)
- Familiarity with transformer-based or multimodal AI models and their application in perception or robotics contexts
- Proficiency with PyTorch or TensorFlow, OpenCV, and common vision frameworks (YOLO, Detectron, etc.)
- Experience developing and deploying AI models on edge devices (Jetson or similar)
- Solid programming ability in Python; familiarity with C++ and ROS2 integration preferred
- Strong understanding of data pipeline design and real-world validation (mAP, precision, recall metrics)
- Experience managing or curating labeled datasets for supervised learning
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with minimal structure
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
Key Results
- Deliver robust AI models capable of real-time safety inspection and damage detection with high accuracy and reliability.
- Build and maintain scalable AI data pipelines for training, validation, and continuous improvement.
- Integrate perception algorithms effectively with robotic hardware and cloud systems, ensuring stable operation in real-world environments.
- Document model architecture, datasets, and performance metrics to support repeatability and future scaling.
- Contribute to a culture of applied innovation by delivering practical, measurable AI outcomes that move projects from concept to commercial reality.
